Speaker 1 (00:00):
In today’s handoff to Joe, a fishing victory foiled by a shark bite.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Watch as a team reels in what they thought was the winning catch.

There was a lot of force to hoist that guy up. The crew of Sensation erupted in cheers on Sunday as they hoisted that blue marlin, tipping the scales at a little over 619 pounds. This was all part of a tournament that was in Morehead City, North Carolina. Well, hours later that joy turned into disappointment when tournament officials found a chunk out of the side of the fish, and they determined it was bitten by a shark. What that meant was more than $3 million in prize money was now off the table. $2.7 million for first place, an additional $700,000 for the first catch of the year, over 500 pounds.
Speaker 1 (00:55):
Under the rules of the International Game Fish Association, a fish will be disqualified due to, “Mutilation to the fish prior to landing or boating the catch caused by sharks or other fish, mammals, or propellers that remove or penetrate the flesh.” That’s a lot of words. Top prize went to the crew of Sushi, which reeled in a 484-pound blue marlin.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
They’ve got to be specific with those rules, I guess.
Speaker 3 (01:26):
I guess.
Speaker 2 (01:26):
What a bummer.
Speaker 3 (01:27):
How about the poor Marlin? He survives a shark attack only to be disqualified.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
He had a rough week or something. I don’t know.
Speaker 3 (01:35):
Man, he should make extra money for that. I don’t get that rule. I really don’t. You can’t control…
Speaker 1 (01:38):
That’s like somebody cutting your lottery ticket, isn’t it?
Speaker 3 (01:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:41):
Yes. Ripping it out of your hands.
Speaker 3 (01:43):
I don’t get it, but okay. We don’t make the rules, but I guess you’ve got to play by them. $3 million they lost?
Speaker 2 (01:49):
At least maybe some of those crew members got their chance to take a picture with the fish and put it on their dating profile. You know what I mean?
Speaker 3 (01:54):
Again, the marlin goes…
Speaker 1 (01:56):
There’s a lot of those on a dating profile.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
There are a lot of those. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:58):
All right. Thanks, guys. Have a good night.
